Chateau - Gardens of Ussé
The Chateau of the Sleeping Beauty
Castle of the sleeping beauty

The geographical situation of Ussé is exceptional, in the border of the forest of Chinon and dominating of its white silhouette the valley of the Indre, the Chateau of Ussé inspired in Perrault its famous tales. Built largely in the XVth and in the XVIth century on the bases of a fortress of the XIth century, its successive owners brought to the Chateau of Ussé each touches them personal, so conferring its a unique charm.
The Chateau of Ussé corresponds perfectly to this definition which we often use about historic sites of our Touraine Loire Valley : dream and reality, history and legend...

The furniture, the works of art and the collections, which you go to discover during the visit, belonged to the families which were owners of the place through centuries.

The Gardens of Ussé
Gardens of the castle of Ussé

The Gardens of Ussé are among the most beautiful gardens of Touraine, they were fitted out by the families of Valentinay, which realized the construction of the terrace by means of Vauban, whose girl Jeanne had married in 1691 Louis II Bernin de Valentinay. The terrace gardens of Ussé were drawn by Ours, creative of the gardens of Versailles. The construction of the Orangery dates 1664. We can admire in the gardens of Ussé, a beautiful collection of citrus fruits, orange trees and lemon trees which the oldest were already present before the Revolution.

The Chateau of Ussé belongs to Duke de Blacas today who lives with his family there.
