The Château of Montsoreau is an exceptional site for many reasons:
Firstly, thanks to its geographical location, at the confluence of the Vienne and the Loire. Few monuments today can brag about having the royal river, the Loire, as their garden. In addition, because of the architecture between two world, the Middle Ages and modern times. It is half fortress and half pleasant chateau with amenities.Lastly, it is exceptional because of the innovative character of its multimedia tour of 18 rooms of the château.
After being a strategic military position and tollhouse in the Middle Ages, the château became one of the first boating residences constructed on the Loire in 1455. In the 19th century, the Château of Montsoreau was used as apartments and warehouses. Today it is registered as a historical monument. Moreover, it is located in the part of the Loire which has been classified as world heritage by UNESCO in 2000.
It has an exceptional location: at the confluence of the Loire and Vienne rivers and at the crossroads of the regions Anjou, Poitou and Touraine. In contrast with other Loire Valley châteaux, Montsoreau was built on the river, which at that time filled its moats. Owner of the château since 1913, the Conseil Général of "Maine et Loire" undertook its renovation in 1999. |
