Chateau of Brézé
One Castle may hide another

Straddling the border of the Anjou and Touraine regions, Brézé was one of the last of the great Loire valley Châteaux to be opened to the public

What distinguishes Brézé from others Castles in the region is invisible from a distance : an underground fortress of staggering proportions which has been restored thanks to the efforts of its owner, the Count de Colbert. Though no archaeological survey has been conducted in the troglodytique dwelling, records indicate that this subterranean stronghold existed at the beginning of the XIth century. One of the most mysterious and compelling sites of the Loire valley.

THE CHATEAU XVIth-XIXth: an elegant still lived house …
Built between XIth and XIXth centuries, the chateau of Brézé offers to the visitors the opportunity to discover a house "Renaissance", restored in the XIXth century by the famous architect from Anjou René Hodé. We discover the apartments of Richelieu, as well as the magnificent rooms of Monseigneur de Dreux-Brézé's, descendant of the famous Great masters of the Ceremonies of King! For more than three centuries, the domain belongs to the same family because the current owner Jean de Colbert is the heir, by her mother, of Marquis de Dreux-Brézé.

THE UNDERGROUND PASSAGES: a chateau under a chateau …
The universe of underground passages visits like a real book of history, engraved in the tuffeau. We discover it the old seigneurial house " Rock of Brézé " with its silos and its light shaft, the ancient dug covered ways, the troglodytic drawbridge, the seigneurial storerooms, the subterranean presses, the kitchen and its oven bakery, the icebox and the other dug tunnels.

THE CATHEDRALS OF IMAGES: " the Loire in Inheritance "
A fantastic show updated in 2005!
Include in visit of underground passages, the " Cathedrals of Images " offer a unique show in the West of France. Around thirty slide projectors use 4300 m ² of walls subterranean as big screen to plunge you in the heart of a magic travel. Approximately 750 slides present the wealth and the variety of the heritage ligérien, classified "World heritage" by the UNESCO: its country, the people, its culture, its History, and its unique beauty … Striking!
